An Overachiever's Survival Guide; 1 Lazy But Ambitious
Posted on 22/09/2024, inSo… why?
It sounds contradictory at first, but listen. Do you remember any moment when you wanted to do something more, something out of the ordinary, something that you were interested in? But… You don’t feel like doing it?
Some Backstory
Winter break has started for me. My break, and for others in my area, lasts for about one week, and, luckily, my teachers have not given me much work to do. So you get the point, I have a good amount of free time. In September, the beginning of the school year, I decided to commit myself to numerous projects I wanted ‘completed’ by the end of the year. Varying from my interests in many fields, Mathematics, Engineering, STEM, Selfhelp, and Research. So… it’s almost 2025. I’ve got some stuff done, yet I’m not where I want to be. Comment below if you can relate : ]
In other words…
In my experience, I have had a high level of difficulty cough cough with tasks that take a long time to accomplish, even if they are the things I love to do.
I found a video that perfectly illustrates this:
This video talks about how there is a paradox in being lazy. For instance, when you complete tasks that aren’t productive–like watching movies, or playing video games– you feel like you have the ‘potential energy’ to do more. Of course, please don’t think you must be doing something productive always ( experience, you’ll get burnt out). So try not to develop productive anxiety (:> also experience). Let me know if this is a topic you all want some insight on in the comments. Back to the topics in the video, identify that mindset and actions can be two different things. A mindset is a way of thinking, while actions prove your mindset. They correlate! Remember the song ‘ Don’t Stop Believin’ “? That’s what you have to do when chasing your dreams! It’s a long road, but as Lao Tzu said (in my perspective), even one step in the path you chose is a step in a path you choose. It’s like getting one percent better every day, it will, in the end, compound! Furthermore, you are choosing your path. Not your parents, not your relatives, not your situation, not your resources, you. Take ownership of your independence! This leads me to another point I want to cover, not bending yourself to fit for others. This applies to numerous parts of life; like a lesson applicable throughout every step in your journey. Let me expand on this. It’s the weekend and you’ve made plans to work on yourself. Taking some time meditating, work on what makes you happy… Until you get derailed by your freinds who want you to play video games with them. So what do you do? You don’t want to let them down, but also want to do what you were planning to do. Honestly, right now, this is something I feel the most. I try to balance my time with my family and my goals. Yes, yes, it’s the whole time management concept, again. Even when you feel like you can’t, don’t have the energy, don’t let another zero day pass by. You can do this. You know your limit, and if you don’t then find it. Work on what you want to do and take breaks! Have a balance between work and joy. I know I went off topic a bit, but I hope this helps!
